#7 WolfPack use big second half for 7-0 win in opener

Raemisch nets two goals, Kubicek makes three saves, Trapino ties record in shutout

ROCKFORD, ILL. - For the fourth straight season, the Madison College women's soccer team opened the year with a win, however, the 2018 debut also a leg up in the race atop the North Central Community College Conference standings. The WolfPack used a five-goal second half to pull away from N4C rival Rock Valley College in a 7-0 win Wednesday. The lopsided victory gives the 'Pack two wins in its last three meetings against the Golden Eagles, who still own a 2-6-1 all-time lead in the head-to-head series.

It took less than three minutes for the WolfPack to tally the season's first goal when freshman Mary Raemisch found the back of the net just two minutes, 34 seconds into the game. Then in the game's tenth minute, Madison College's all-time leading scorer, Britt Schumann, made it a two-goal lead with her 26th career goal.

Still a two-goal differential to start the second half, the #7-ranked 'Pack began to pour it on as the clock neared the 59'. Freshman forward Breanna Griffin registered her first career goal, and two minutes later, first year midfielder Meghan Petroski did the same to make it a 4-0 lead. Madison College added three more goals over a six minute span from the 81' to the 87'. Kaitlin Satern, a forward/midfielder, started the surge, followed by the second goal from Raemish, a Lodi, Wisconsin, native. That scoring strike came off an assist by Jenna Kohrt, who then capped the scoring with her first career goal off a pass from Peyton Trapino. The assist by the sophomore midfielder gives her 21 helpers for her career, tying the program's all-time assists record held by Katie Travis ('16). It took the DeForest, Wisconsin, product ten fewer games to reach that mark.

First year goalkeeper Kelly Kubicek opens her career with a clean sheet, recording three saves in the shutout win. Madison College owned a 24-5 advantage in shots, and a 16-3 edge in shots on goal over Rock Valley College (1-2, 0-1). The visitors also attempted six corner kicks to the home team's none.

Madison College (1-0, 1-0) remains on the road Friday, August 31 with a match at Region IV foe Illinois Valley Community College (0-3-1). The WolfPack has a 2-0 mark in the head-to-head series with each of the past two seasons by a combined score of 14-1 over the Eagles, who have dropped three straight games coming into the match. Kickoff is at 2:00 p.m. in LaSalle, Illinois.
