MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College men's basketball team earned back-to-back wins for the first time this season after leading wire-to-wire in a 91-70 victory Monday night against UW-Waukesha at
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The WolfPack saw five players score in double-figures for the second time this season, both resulting in wins after accomplishing the same feat against Rochester CTC on November 20. The win improves the 'Pack to 28-12 all-time against Waukesha, and to 2-1 against Wisconsin-based opponents this year.
Behind seven early points from freshman big man
Adam Anhold, Madison College jumped out to a 12-3 lead. The advantage slowly grew to a peak of 17 points on two separate occasions before the 'Pack took a 46-35 score into the halftime locker room. A pair of early baskets by the Cougars (5-4) in the second half dropped the differential inside of ten points within the first three minutes of the half, however, the WolfPack had an answer with five consecutive points from sophomore
Sean Suchomel. The game was put away as the home team put together a 19-9 run, highlighted by three-pointers from
Nathaniel Buss, Ahold, and
Bryce Moore, that stretched the lead to a game-high 27 points with less than eight minutes to play. The 'Pack eventually settled for a 21-point win to pull within a game of the .500 mark on the season.Â
Anhold, a 6'8" transfer from NCAA Division II Bemidji State University, continued his impressive play of late with 21 points for his fourth consecutive game over the 20-point mark. The former Janesville Craig High School athlete finished 6 of 14 overall and 8 for 12 at the charity stripe. He also tied for team-high honors with five rebounds and blocked a game-high two shots.Â
Buss knocked down all three of his long-range shots as part of an 8 for 10 shooting effort that ended with 19 points for the former Verona Area High School athlete. The 5'11" guard now owns seven double-digit scoring games on the season.
Suchomel came off the bench to score 14 points as he missed two shots from the field during a 5 for 7 performance. The sophomore also added four free throws, while grabbing five rebounds to match Anhold for the team lead and dishing out a team-best four assists. Fellow guards
Jalen Addison and
Bryce Moore rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Addison picked up a season-high five steals, while Moore, a Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native, converted a season-high four triples to account for all of his points in his first career double-digit scoring game.
The WolfPack finished 31 of 66 for 47% shooting overall and were 9 of 25 (36%) from distance. The home team's 20 made free throws was the second-highest total of the season. The Cougars hit on 40% (22-55) of their shots and were 4 of 14 (28.6%) from downtown while making 22 of 32 free throws. The teams combined for 52 personal fouls and 65 free throw attempts. Madison College also led in points off turnovers by a 29-5 margin and points in the paint by a 40-28 differential.
