CRYSTAL LAKE, ILL. - The Madison College men's basketball team was locked in from long range in the 2018-19 season opener, hitting nine 3-pointers and securing an 81-66 victory at McHenry County College on Thursday night. The WolfPack, who led by 16 at the half, finished with four players scoring in double-digits to extend their streak of season-opening wins to five in a row, including three straight over the Scots. The win also marked the first Madison College win for new head coach
Jamal Palmer.
Despite being on the road to open the year, the WolfPack played very comfortably and out-shot the Scots in nearly every facet. Madison College connected on 9 of 13 (69.2%) shots outside the arc, part of an overall 50.8% (32-63) performance. McHenry County College (0-1) was successful on 30.9% of their overall attempts and just 6 of 25 from deep. The teams were virtually even at the free throw line. The visitors also committed six fewer turnovers.
Sophomore guard
Sean Suchomel was almost perfect from the field with seven baskets on nine attempts and a 4 for 7 effort at the line to tally a team-best 18 points, falling three points shy of his career high. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native also racked up seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Freshmen
Adam Anhold and
Jalen Addison added 17 and 16 points, repectively. Anhold, a product of Janesville Craig HS, went 6 for 11 overall with one 3-pointer, and was successful on all four free throw attempts, while Addison, who hails from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, knocked down 7 of 10 shots and 2 of 3 from long range.
Second year guard
Nathaniel Buss keyed the successful three-point barrage with a 3 for 4 performance as part of a ten-point effort to round out the double-digit scorers. The former Verona Area HS standout also had a team-best six assists. Five other players also found their way into the scoring column.
Mark Simmons, a freshman from O'Fallon, Missouri, grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds.
The WolfPack is now 3-1 all-time against McHenry County College.

Madison College (1-0) remains on the road Saturday with a trip to Highland Community College (0-0). The two programs have met 33 times before, with the Cougars owning a commanding 26-7 advantage in the head-to-head series, including wins in six straight games going back to 2000. Tip off in Freeport, Illinois, is set for 3:00 p.m.Â
