CRYSTAL LAKE, ILL. - For the second consecutive season, the Madison College women's basketball team opened their season with a loss to NJCAA Division II McHenry County College after taking a 60-42 on Thursday night. The Scots, who won last year in Madison to begin the season, held the WolfPack to single digit point totals in the second and fourth quarters to pull the all-time series to a even at two wins each.
Madison College shot 26% overall and from three-point range, going 15 for 57 overall and 4 for 15 outside the arc. The WolfPack was a solid 8 of 10 at the free throw line. Defensively, the 'Pack tallied 14 steals and five blocked shots, however, the most telling statistics of the night were just four assists and 22 turnovers.
Freshman
Aniah Williams led the team with 23 points in her collegiate debut. The Beloit, Wisconsin, native hit four 3-pointers as part of a 7 for 23 effort overall, while also converting 5 of 6 free throws. Williams, a 5'8" guard, completed her statline with four steals, three rebounds, and a block.
First year forwardÂ
Evonne Strahm contributed nine points on 4 of 10 shooting with a free throw and four steals for the former Barneveld HS athlete. Forwards
Jayla Connor and
A'lexis Simon each had a team-leading five rebounds and two blocks, with Connor adding two blocks. Sophomore
Caitlyn Gilbertson had a pair of rejections to go along with a team-high five steals.

Madison College (0-1) stays on the road for the season's second game at NJCAA Division I Highland Community College (0-1) on Saturday. The WolfPack and Cougars are deadlocked at 16-16 in head-to-head matchups after HCC won the early-season contest in Madison last year. The Cougars lost their season opener by a 91-54 final at Iowa Western CC. Tip off is at 1:00 pm in Freeport, Illinois.
