WolfPack knock off #10 Joliet in four

Defensive effort of Madison College limits Wolves attack

JOLIET, ILL. - Every set came down to a handful of points or less, but in the end, the Madison College women's volleyball team took down #10-ranked Joliet Junior College, 3-1, in a North Central Community College Conference match on Thursday. Bolstered by 73 digs and seven blocks, the WolfPack held JJC to a .061 attack percentage en route to a 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21 decision that keeps them in the mix atop the N4C standings. Combined with a three-set sweep of the Wolves in August, Madison College swept the regular season series with Joliet for a seventh consecutive season and has now won 16 straight in the head-to-head series (21-2).

Sophomore libero Maddie Scalissi chased down 25 digs to establish a new career-best one week after doing the same in an upset win over then #5-ranked Harper College. The Milton, Wisconsin, native has posted double-digit digs in five consecutive matches and has surpassed the 20-dig plateau on two occasions this season. Three other players also reached double-digit digs, with setter Olivia Darkow posting 13, followed by 11 from defensive specialist Paige Alsum, and ten by freshman DS Kacee Kruczek. Darkow, also a second year player, registered her fourth straight double-double. The duo of Darkow and Alsum each posted three aces in the match, guiding the 'Pack to 11 total aces.

For the third consecutive match, second year outside hitter Paige Hostetler reached 20 kills as she finished with 22 on 67 attempts for a .197 attack percentage. First year hitter Tianna Sackett racked up 13 kills and hit at a .225 clip, but was even bigger on the defensive side with three solo blocks and four total. Isabella Carrillo, who finished with six kills, was involved in two blocks.

Overall, Madison College reached 48 kills to just 30 for Joliet (14-11, 3-5). The WolfPack also posted an 11-6 edge in aces, a 7-5 advantage in blocks, and a 44-30 margin in assists. The Wolves got the better of the 'Pack in the digs category by an 81-73 differential.
