WolfPack rally comes up short in regular season finale

Loss places Madison, Harper in second place tie in N4C

PALATINE, ILL. - A poor start to Tuesday's regular season finale for the Madison College men's soccer team was too much to overcome in a 3-2 loss to Harper College. The final result means the Hawks and WolfPack both finish North Central Community College Conference at 6-3-1 and tied for second place behind repeat champion Triton College. Harper swept the 'Pack in the regular season series and have won seven of the last 11 meetings.

The host Hawks raced out to a 3-0 lead with goals in the 6', 10', and 13' against freshman goalkeeper Msughter Abel Dzoho. The scoring surge came as part of a 17-1 advantage in total shots for Harper College (7-5-2) in the first half.

The only good news for the WolfPack in the first half was that sophomore Dejesus Herrera converted the team's only shot on goal in the 18' off an assist by fellow second year Will Hamilton. The goal is Herrera's 21st, adding to his single season goals record set in the previous outing, while Hamilton boasts a team-best eight assists.

The score remained 3-1 through halftime and much of the second half until Hamilton hit a scoring strike in the 80' to bring the deficit to just one. The Mundelein, Illinois, native and transfer from NCAA Division III Wartburg College (IA) has two goals and 12 points on the year.

Unfortunately, neither team was able to get off another shot after that last goal and the WolfPack fell to 8-14-1 all-time against the Hawks, who finished with a 21-3 differential in total shots and a 13-2 edge in shots on goal. Dzoho finished with nine saves in the first half, and fellow freshman Saxon LaFlash notched on throughout the second half.
