PALATINE, ILL. - The Madison College women's soccer team held on to its unblemished record in North Central Community College Conference play with a 3-0 victory over host Harper College on Friday. The sophomore tandem of
Britt Schumann and
Peyton Trapino combined for all of the WolfPack's goals, as well as one of the team's three assists, to help maintain a one-game lead atop the N4C standings. With a sweep of their regular season series for the second consecutive year,
ninth-ranked Madison College now boasts a 7-3-1 all-time mark against the Hawks and have won five straight matches.
The two DeForest, Wisconsin, natives worked together to net the game's first goal, as Trapino's 21st assist of the season set up Schumann for her 14th goal of the year. The assist breaks the program record for helpers in a year, surpassing Trapino's 20 assists from last fall. The one-goal lead less than six minutes into the game was pushed to a 2-0 advantage in the 8' as Trapino found the scoring touch. The midfielder took a pass from freshman
Mary Raemisch and beat the Hawks goalkeeper to reach double-digit scores in 2018.
Still 2-0 deep into the second half, Raemisch, a first year midfielder from Lodi, Wisconsin, again placed a perfect pass at the feet of Trapino for the match's final scoring strike. The goal pushes Trapino's points total to a team-best 41.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kelly Kubicek denied all seven Hawks (5-4, 4-4) shots on goal to post her eighth shutout of the season, tying the school record held by current goalkeeper coach
Brandie Gospodarek after the 2017 campaign.
The WolfPack attempted 24 total shots and put 14 shots on goal to help distance themselves from Harper's 13 total shots.
