Early goal against WolfPack results in season's third loss

Madison College held without a goal for second time in 2018

MADISON, WI. - The difference in Friday's North Central Community College Conference men's soccer match between Madison College and Harper College happened before most fans were in their seats inside Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The Hawks first minute goal turned out to be the only score of the game as the WolfPack fell 1-0 and were shut out for the second time this season. The matchup marked the first of two in a ten day stretch between the 'Pack and Harper, who leads the all-time series 13-8-1.

Just 47 seconds after the whistle blew to start the game, Harper College's Jose Garcia-Lopez put the game's first kick past WolfPack goalkeeper Saxon LaFlash. The teams then played the next 89 minutes and 13 seconds in a scoreless tie.

LaFlash, a former Madison Memorial athlete, recorded six saves over the rest of the match. The Hawks (6-4-2, 5-4-1) out-shot the home team by a 10-3 differential in the first half before Madison College put the pressure on in the second half with eight total shots compared to two for Harper.

Leading goal scorer and Madison West product Dejesus Herrera led the effort with four total shots and two shots on goal. The scoreless effort snaps three-match scoring streak for Herrera, who netted eight goals over that span.

Prior to Friday's loss, the WolfPack had not lost in six games.
