MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's basketball was in full control of Saturday's North Central Community College Conference battle with Triton College, turning a double-digit first quarter lead into a 72-51 win as part of the
12th Annual Jam the Gym Celebration inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Sophomores
Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven,
Megan Corcoran, and
Peyton Trapino combined to score 53 points to earn a second consecutive season sweep of the Trojans, improving the WolfPack's lead in the all-time series to 17-2 and 9-0 at home.
Playing on the home floor for the third consecutive game, Madison College trailed by a 6-5 margin early before going on a 17-5 run to take a 22-11 advantage. The WolfPack shot 7 for 11 with three 3-pointers, a trend that continued in the second quarter with another three hits from long range to withstand a quick 5-0 burst by Triton College (8-15, 4-4) and own a 39-23 lead at halftime.
A 12-4 scoring surge early in the third gave the 'Pack its largest lead of the day at 51-27. Madison College reached the 24-point differential five more times before settling for the easy win to improve to 2-1 on the homestand.
Udelhoven was the WolfPack's top scorer for the third consecutive game, dropping in 20 points and knocking down four 3-pointers for her fourth straight outing with multiple made shots beyond the arc. The 5'5" guard recorded five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Corcoran also found her shot from long range, using three 3-pointers to tally 18 points. The Madison La Follette product posted team-high totals with seven rebounds, five steals, and two blocks, to go along with five assists.
Trapino's 15 points came on 6 of 9 shooting and 3 of 7 free throws, while the guard paced the team with six assists.
Freshman
Tianna Sackett made 3 of 4 field goal attempts, including her first collegiate three-pointer, en route to a season-high nine points in her third game with the team. The West Salem, Wisconsin, native contributed to a 15-1 advantage in bench points.
As a team, Madison College converted 28 of 50 shots for a season-best 56%.
