Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dominant first half ends in lopsided N4C win for WolfPack

Madison College opens with 33-0 run against DuPage, sets up showdown with #6 RVC

MADISON, WISC. - Not long after Saturday's Madison College women's basketball game started it was essentially over, and officially ending with a 75-26 dismantling of the College of DuPage at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. A 33-0 run to start the game for the WolfPack also yielded a program record for fewest points allowed in a half. The win over the Chaparrals is the ninth consecutive in the head-to-head series, as well as the third straight in North Central Community College Conference play.

Just about everything went the way of the WolfPack during the first half, which opened with the team's second shutout of an opponent this season. Madison College made 10 of 20 shots and two 3-pointers, while holding DuPage (3-13, 0-6) without a field goal on ten attempts and forcing ten turnovers, en route to building a 24-0 advantage. The differential surpasses the 16-0 fourth quarter the 'Pack registered in a win over KIshwaukee College last month. The second quarter saw the Chaparrals end the 'Pack's 33-0 run to open the game with a free throw four minutes into the quarter. By halftime, Madison College had held COD to a program-record for fewest points and led by a 44-5 margin.

The second half proved to be a bit more competitive as the Chaparrals prevented the home team from setting another benchmark for points allowed in a game. By the end, Madison College owned a significant advantage in every team category: points in the paint (34-12), total rebounds (44-28), second chance points (15-2), turnovers (9-21), points off turnovers (16-7), and bench points (14-0). The nine turnovers committed by coach Lois Heeren's club are the fewest in a game this season.

Madison College converted 28 of 57 (49.1%) field goal attempts and 5 of 13 (38.5%) from beyond the arc. DuPage was limited to 8 for 44 (18.2) shooting, the second lowest opponent shooting percentage of the season.

Sophomore Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven established a new career-high by a point, scoring 24 points on 7 for 15 shooting overall, 4 of 8 from long range. and 2 for 2 at the free throw line. It's the third 20-plus point outing of the season for the Fennimore, Wisconsin, native, and the fourth of her career.

Fellow second year players Megan Corcoran and Peyton Trapino joined her as double-figure scorers with 18 and 13 points, respectively. Corcoran made the only other three-pointer for the WolfPack and secured a team-best nine rebounds, while Trapino was nearly perfect from the floor with a 5 for 6 effort overall and dished out a game-high six assists.

Coach Heeren also introduced a few new names on Saturday, as Breanne Kreklow, and twins Tierra Sackett and Tianna Sackett made their collegiate basketball debuts. Brandie Gospodarek also rejoined the team over the weekend after playing in one game during the season's first month. All four were members of the Madison College women's soccer team that qualified for the NJCAA Division III National Championships this past fall.
