#2 WolfPack make quick work of Pride for ninth straight win

Efficient first set sets tone in non-conference battle with NAIA Clarke

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College volleyball played its first match of the season as the nation's #2 team in the NJCAA Divison III Poll on Thursday night, and came away with a three-set sweep of NAIA Clarke University (IA) JV at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The WolfPack raced to a 25-15, 25-20, and 25-17 win that was their ninth straight match victory, and extended a streak of consecutive sets won to 14.

Madison College, now a perfect 10-0 versus Clarke since the two began playing in 2011, converted ten of 18 attack attempts with one lone hitting error in the opening set for an attack percentage of .500 that built momentum for the rest of the night. For the match, the 'Pack tallied 32 kills and a .287 efficiency. Defensively, the WolfPack put the clamps on the Pride with a back row effort that produced 56 digs.

Sophomore Megan Corcoran was the lone player in double-digits for kills, hammering down 13 on the evening. The former Madison La Follette athlete hit at a .440 clip, her highest mark of the eight matches in which she had ten or more kills. Paige Hostetler and Reagan Goupil each tallied five kills. Goupil was playing in her first match for Madison College after transferring in from NJCAA DII Mott Community College (MI).

Setters Keely Brown and Olivia Darkow once again split the duties of running the WolfPack attack, registering 13 and 12 assists, respectively. Darkow, a West Bend, Wisconsin, native also finished with a career-best five aces. Freshman libero Kendra Nicolay had a team-high 16 digs, and fellow first year Mariah Capra paced the work at the net with 3.0 blocks.
