ROCKFORD, ILL. - Off to their best start since 2007, the Madison College men's soccer team picked up a win in its first road game of the season, defeating Rock Valley College by a 3-0 final Friday night. Sophomore
Toby Andrews contributed the first two goals of the game, while fellow second year
Blake Dehn recorded his first shutout of the season as the WolfPack moved into a two-way tie with Triton College for first place in the
North Central Community College Conference.
The match saw ten shots on goal over the first 40 minutes, eight of which were off the foot of Madison College player, however, the game remained scoreless. Andrews broke that tie in the 43' with an unassisted goal. It remained 1-0 deep into the second half when Andrews struck again, finding the back of the net with a successful strike in the 69'. The All-American boasts a team-high five goals and ten points.
The WolfPack padded their lead to 3-0 six minutes later with freshman forward Shane Patterson's first goal of his career. The Catterick Garrison, England, native made certain that every goal scored against Rock Valley College (3-1, 1-1) was done by a British national. The score came on an assist by
Jonathan Tecuatil-Toxqui, the first career point for the former Madison East athlete.
Dehn, a native of Danvers, Illinois, registered four saves for his third career shutout and the 'Pack's sixth win in nine matches - including a run of four straight - against the Golden Eagles. The defensive effort in front of Dehn, combined with an aggressive WolfPack attack, gave Madison College a 16-7 advantage on total shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. The physical battle featured 43 combined fouls.

Madison College (4-0, 2-0) returns home for an early season showdown to decide first place in the N4C with Triton College (4-0, 2-0) on Wednesday, September 6.
