MADISON, WISC. - Not much comes easy in North Central Community College Conference volleyball matches, and that proved to be true, yet again, Tuesday night when Madison College fought off a pesky Joliet Junior College team for a 3-1 win inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. After a convincing 25-19 win in set one, the #2 WolfPack fell out of sorts during the second set and lost 18-25 to even the match at 1-1. However, the 'Pack stayed poised and road the powerful swing of sophomore
Megan Corcoran to wins of 25-21 and 25-22 to close out the match and a three-game homestand.
Corcoran, a native of Madison, Wisconsin, reached 20 kills for the second consecutive match, falling one shy of the career-high 21 kills registered five nights earlier. She finished with four errors and a .410 hitting percentage on 39 attempts, as well as 11 digs and three blocks for her eighth double-double of the season. Over the past two matches, Corcoran has 41 kills, seven hitting errors, a .405 attack percentage, 28 digs, and six blocks. For the second consecutive match, sophomore
Samantha Jacobsen blasted a career-high ten kills. The DeForest, Wisconsin, native hit .318 en route to her fourth ten-kill match of the season.
Freshman setter
Olivia Darkow also matched a career-high with 22 assists, doing so for the third time this season and extending her streak of consecutive matches with double-digit assists to 17. The former West Bend East HS athlete tied classmate
Kendra Nicolay with a team-high three aces in the match. Sophomore
Keely Brown had 16 assists and has amassed at least ten assists in all 22 matches on the year. She collected a dozen digs for her 12th double-double. Staying on the defensive end,Â
Maddie Scalissi had 15 digs, two better than Nicolay, both of whom wore the libero jersey during the match.
Mariah Capra had four blocks to pace the front row for a fourth straight outing.
The WolfPack racked up 52 kills on 49 assists with nine aces, as well as 72 digs and six blocks in picking up their 14th consecutive win over Joliet (8-9, 3-4) and a sixth straight regular season sweep. The 'Pack is 19-2 all-time over the Wolves, whose only wins in the series came in 2011.
