SOPHOMORE SENDOFF: WolfPack throttle Spartans in home finale

Dozen goals is most in a game for Madison College since 2006

MADISON, WISC. - The sophomore class of 2017 took full advantage of their final regular season home game at Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East on Sunday night, collecting 18 points and a shutout to lead the charge in a resounding 12-0 win over Region IV foe Elgin Community College. In all, seven different players scored goals for the WolfPack, who scored the most goals in a game since a 20-0 win over UW-Fox Valley in September 2006. The win closes the book on the home portion of the regular season schedule with a 6-2 record, and gives the 'Pack a 21-0 scoring advantage in the two-match all-time series against the Spartans.

The scoring frenzy started early and stayed constant through the first 70 minutes of the match. Sophomores Jake Andrews (2') and Toby Andrews (4') tallied goals in the first five minutes to seize control for Madison College. Both goals were assisted by fellow second year forward Marco Peruzzo. By the 20' mark it was 4-0 after scoring strikes from Ali Barry and Casey Risch, assisted by Jake Andrews and Matthew Johnson, respectively. The WolfPack added two more goals over the next ten minutes, both by freshman Oscar Perez, with the second assisted by Risch. First year forward Shane Paterson made it 7-0 before halftime with an unassisted goal, his fifth of the season.

The second half looked much the same with Toby Andrews netting two goals in the first three minutes of action for his first hat trick of the season and third of his career. He now has a team-best 12 goals on the year. Jake Andrews registered his second goal of the night in the 51' to push the lead to double-digits, and after freshman Vital Nizigiymana scored off a Gerardo Rodriguez pass, Perez added his name to the hat trick list with his third goal of the night in the 67' to cap the evening's scoring. It's the first multi-goal game for the former Madison West HS athlete. Peruzzo, a native of Vicenza, Italy, finished with a career-high three assists.

The WolfPack's 17 shots on goal marked their highest total of the season, while their 29 total shots was second highest after attempting 34 against Milwaukee Area Technical College earlier this month. Comparatively, Elgin (0-9) attempted nine total shots and put five on goal. Madison College sophomore goalkeeper Blake Dehn was credited for five saves en route to his second shutout of the season and fourth career.
