MADISON, WISC. - A two-goal second half lead evaporated in the blink of an eye for the Madison College men's soccer team, which eventually lost 3-2 to Harper College on Wednesday at
Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The Hawks scored there unanswered goals to hand the WolfPack their second loss in the last three North Central Community College Conference games, all played on their home turf. The decision also marked the five loss in the last seven meetings between the two conference and region foes.
Madison College took the day's first lead in the 35' when freshman
Ali Barry set up sophomore All-American
Toby Andrews for an easy strike past the goalkeeper. The goal was the team-leading sixth of the year for Andrews, while the assist was the first Barry, a former Madison West HS athlete.
Still leading by a goal into the second half, the WolfPack made it a 2-0 cushion with second year forward
Shane Paterson's second goal of the season in the 60'. Freshman
Gerardo Rodriguez was credited with an assist to earn the first point of his collegiate career.
Very quickly after, the wheels fell off for the 'Pack. Sloppy passing and porous defense allowed Harper College (4-2-1, 1-1-1) to notch two goals in the next six minutes to draw even. The match stayed that way deep into regulation until freshman forward Raphael scored his second goal of the game and the game-winner with less than three minutes to play. All three of the Hawks goals were unassisted.
Madison College, which attempted one shot in the final couple minutes to try and force overtime, finished with a 24-15 edge in overall shots, however, the shots on goal count ended all square at seven each. Sophomore goalkeeper
Blake Dehn made four saves, but has allowed eight goals over three matches compared to just four goals in the season's first four matches.
