HOME SWEEP: #5 WolfPack dispenses DuPage in three sets

Madison College uses efficient hitting to win home opener, 24th straight vs. Chaparrals

MADISON, WISC. - Playing in front of the home fans for the first time this season, the Madison College volleyball team handled their business Thursday in a three-set sweep of visiting North Central Community Colllege Conference foe College of DuPage. Though it didn't come easy, the fifth-ranked WolfPack earned their second straight N4C win with scores of 25-20, 25-21, and 25-19, while also pushing their win streak over the Chaparrals to 24 consecutive.

Both offenses were able to find a rhythm early, with each team enjoying their best hitting efficiency of the night in the opening set. Madison College converted 12 of 32 attacks for a .312 attack percentage and DuPage (5-2, 1-1) hit at a .267 clip with 15 kills. The match changed as the WolfPack defense forced the COD offense into percentages of .125 and .000 over the final two sets. Comparatively, the home team continued to hit at a .250 percentage or better throughout. Madison College finished with five more kills (36-31) and ten fewer errors (9-19).

Sophomore Megan Corcoran paced the 'Pack for the fourth time this season with a match-high 14 kills and a .355 percentage. Freshmen Mariah Capra and Paige Hostetler topped Corcoran in the efficiency category, hitting .400 and .368, respectively. Hostetler, a former Bay Port HS athlete, had seven kills and Capra four. Samantha Jacobsen tallied six kills and was one of five players with an attack percentage over .250.

Setters Keely Brown and Olivia Darkow kept the Chaparrals defense on its collective toes with a wide variety of angles and speeds. Brown registered 17 assists and Darkow 16 as the WolfPack amassed 40 assists for the third time this season. Brown capped her night with the season's first double-double, tracking down 11 digs. First year libero Maddie Scalissi was five better with 16 digs, part of 50 in all by Madison College. The WolfPack block totaled just five, with Corcoran and Capra part of three each.
