WolfPack men score one-goal victory to open 2017 season

Own goal by Malcolm X provides difference in first-ever game at Goodman Pitch-East

MADISON, WISC. - Playing the first ever Madison College soccer game at the brand new Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East, the WolfPack men's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Region IV Division I foe Malcolm X College. The victory marks the second straight year the 'Pack, which is receiving votes in the Preseason NJCAA Division III Poll, has opened with a win.

Madison College grabbed the early lead with the season's first goal in the seventeenth minute as freshman midfielder/forward Brandon Griffin converted a pass from sophomore Marco Peruzzo. The score marked the first collegiate goal for the Tucker, Georgia, native.

The score improved to a two-nil advantage later in the half when the Hawks (0-1) scored an own goal trying to thwart the Madison College attack.

The scoreboard remained unchanged until the eighty-sixth minute when Malcolm X College was finally able to sneak a goal past sophomore goalkeeper Blake Dehn. The native of Danvers, Illinois, had started his college career with nearly 300 consecutive minutes of scoreless soccer prior to that tally.

The WolfPack recorded twelve shots on goal to just four for the visiting Hawks.
