Kosharek's late three caps massive rally, pushes WolfPack past Western Tech

Madison College rises from down 15 for third straight win ahead of trip to Dubuque on Friday

LA CROSSE, WISC. - The Madison College women's basketball team was not shooting well from three-point territory Wednesday at Holy Cross Seminary Gym, but when they needed a big basket late, that's exactly what they got. Freshman Jessica Kosharek's triple in the waning moments ushered the WolfPack to a 59-56 come-from-behind win over the Cavaliers, pushing their current win streak to a season-best three games. Prior to Kosharek's late-game bomb, the 'Pack was 2-for-11 on three-point shots and trailed by as much as 15 points. The game marked the 95th all-time meeting between the two programs.

Madison College fell behind early when a 9-0 Western Tech run ended the first quarter with the Cavaliers ahead by an 18-9 tally. The WolfPack cut the deficit to three, but trailed the entire second quarter and enter halftime down 28-22. The differential would have been more, however, sophomore Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven buried a three-pointer before the halftime buzzer.

Western Tech (0-7) regained momentum early in the third and build their largest lead of the night when a pair of free throws made it 43-28 with 2:05 to play in the period. The WolfPack fought back and began their rally by scoring the final nine points of the quarter, again ending with a Udelhoven jumper that beat the buzzer to make it 43-37. The deficit returned back to 14 points just two-and-a-half minutes into the fourth quarter when Madison College summoned its final surge. The WolfPack outscored WTC by a 14-4 margin over the next seven minutes to pull within four with less than 30 seconds remaining. Udelhoven buried her second three-pointer to make it 55-54. After the Cavaliers made just 1-of-2 free throws, Kosharek found herself open for a deep three and knocked it down to give the 'Pack a 57-56 advantage in the final ten seconds. A Cavs turnover led to a pair of Udelhoven free throws that were pure and brought the game to its final result.

Madison College outscored Western Tech by a 22-13 differential in the final quarter and shot a better percentage in two of three categories. The WolfPack were 21-for-60 (35%) overall and 25% from long range. The Cavaliers finished at 29.7% (19-64) for the game and 5-of-21 (23.8%) beyond the arc, while also shooting a better percentage from the free throw line.

Guard Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven continued her stellar play of late with a game-high 21 points, two shy of her career-best set two nights earlier. The native of Fennimore, Wisconsin, was 6-for-12 on the night with two 3-pointers and a 7-for-12 effort at the free throw line. She boosted her per game average to 15.3 while also grabbing eight rebounds.

Freshman Caitlyn Gilbertson was the only other player to score in double figures, setting a new career-high with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting. The former Belmont HS athlete also posted her third double-double with 11 rebounds. Gilbertson now leads the team with an 8.3 rebounds per game average.

Kosharek's three-pointer gave her nine points on the night, while freshman forward Abby Meehan matched a team- and caree-best with 11 rebounds. It's her third game with double-digit boards out of six played.

The WolfPack have won four straight and 16 of the last 18 against their former Wisconsin Technical College Conference rivals. The series dates back to 1978 and stands at 74-21 in favor of Madison College.
