DUBUQUE, IOWA - The Madison College women's basketball team earned its second win over a NCAA Division III based in Dubuque with an 84-71 road win over the Loras College JV on Friday. Five days after defeating the University of Dubuque JV, the WolfPack rode a big second quarter, a season-best shooting percentage, and a dominating effort on the glass to improve their win streak to four straight games.
A competitive first quarter saw the road team grab a five-point lead, the largest by either team at that point. Madison College separated from the Duhawks in a 21-11 second quarter that featured six points by sophomore point guard
Peyton Trapino, capped by a shot at the buzzer to send the 'Pack to halftime with a 45-30 lead.
The WolfPack reached their largest advantage in the third quarter when Macey Klebesadel buried a three-pointer for a 61-39 lead with 2:10 to play in the quarter. The basket would be the only one attempted by the freshman guard/forward playing in her third game since returning from injury.
Loras College trimmed the differential to eight with just over three minutes remaining, however, Madison College closed the game on an 8-3 run to earn a split of the all-time series after four meetings.
Sophomore
Megan Corcoran racked up 24 points to lead the WolfPack, her eighth game with 20 points or more. The Madison, Wisconsin, native went 8-for-13 on the night and 7-for-8 at the free throw line.
Forward
Abby Meehan finished with 16 points and ten rebounds for her third double-double in five game, and the fourth double-digit rebounding effort in the last five games for the former Evansville HS athlete.
Peyton Trapino, playing in her first game back after missing the last four games after suffering an injury at Rochester CTC on November 21, scored 15 points on 7-for-12 shooting. The native of DeForest, Wisconsin, is averaging 15.5 points in the four games she has played this season. Trapino also dished out a team-best five assists.Â
Five other players scored for the WolfPack, including
Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven, who match Meehan with ten rebounds to lead the team in that category.
Madison College outscored the Duhawks by a 50-32 margin in the paint and turned 16 offensive rebounds into a 17-3 advantage in second chance points. The WolfPack posted a 52.4% (33-63) overall shooting percentage and were plus-19 in total rebounds.
