LA CROSSE, WISC. - The Madison College men's basketball team won the final three minutes of Wednesday's contest at in-state foe Western Technical College, and as a result, won the game by an 85-79 final. Even through 37 minutes of basketball, the WolfPack scored nine of the game's final 12 points to secure the win, with sophomore
Tyree Young pouring in seven of his game-high 23 points to lead a balanced attack that featured seven players with eight points or more. The win extends the 'Pack's current win streak to five straight games, while also marking the fourth straight over the Cavaliers.
In a game that featured five ties and eight lead changes, Madison College found itself playing catch-up on the scoreboard for a majority of the game. Western Tech (2-5) built a double-digit lead in the first half, owning an 11-point advantage at 24-13, and again at 28-17. The WolfPack closed the half with a 19-11 surge that included ten points from Young, giving him a dozen for the half.Â
Madison College continued to trail for the first eight minutes of the second half, but
Brandon Robinson's three-point play at the 11:43 mark gave the 'Pack their first lead since the owning a 4-2 advantage after two minutes. The lead would change hands four more times before the WolfPack used a
Nathaniel Buss three-pointer to trigger a 13-2 run to go up by nine with less than six minutes remaining. However, the Cavaliers fought back to tie the game at 76-76 heading into the final three minutes.
Deshawn Black opened the final kick with an interior bucket, and Young put the finishing touches on the win with a pair of free throws.Â
Tyree Young surpassed the 20-point threshold for the third consecutive game, and the sixth game overall this season. The 5'11" point guard went 9-for-15 on the day, including a 3-for-5 performance from outside the arc.Â
Four other players reached double figures. Guards Jezzriah Burton and
Sean Suchomel each tallied 12 points, while first year playersÂ
Brandon Robinson added 11 points and
Nathaniel Buss ten. In addition to his second consecutive game with more than ten points, Suchomel also finished with a career-high nine rebounds and eight assists to narrowly miss a triple-double. Robinson, a Minneapolis, Minnesota, native, did register a double-double - the first of his career - with a season-high ten rebounds to go along with his third double-digit scoring effort of the year. Buss' ten-point night was his third game in the last five played with double figures.Â
Madison College dominated the glass, owning a 53-41 rebounding advantage that included a season-high 22 offensive boards resulting in a 21-6 edge in second chance scoring. Nearly half of the team's points (42) were scored in the paint as the WolfPack posted a 37.9% (33-87) shooting percentage overall. They made just 7-of-29 attempts from deep, but did connect on 12-of-14 free throws. The Cavaliers shot 30-for-67 (44.8%) and 9-for-17 (52.9%) from three-point territory, and added 10-of-13 three throws.Â
The WolfPack have won 41 of last 44 head-to-head meetings and now own a 59-31 edge after 90 all-time games.

Madison College (8-3) hits the road again Friday, December 8 to play its fourth game in seven days when it takes on Loras College (IA) JV (5-2). The WolfPack dominated the only other prior meeting between the two teams, a 115-81 decision nearly one year to the day. The game is the second of the week against a NCAA Division III school based in Dubuque, Iowa, with the 'Pack having beaten the University of Dubuque JV by 14 on Monday in Madison. Game time is at 7:00 p.m. 90 miles down Highway 151.Â
