Burton, WolfPack shoot down Loras College JV to keep streak alive

Win streak hits six consecutive with final game of 2017 set for Friday

DUBUQUE, IOWA -  The sophomore guard tandem of Jezzriah Burton and Tyree Young once again led the Madison College men's basketball team, scoring a combined 50 points Friday in a 90-71 road win over NCAA Division III Loras College JV. The WolfPack have won six straight games, including two in one week against teams from the Dubuque, Iowa, after also getting past the University of Dubuque JV, 88-74. The win also saw the 'Pack shoot over 50% from the field for the fifth time in the last six games.

Jezzriah Burton made four of his ten field goals from beyond the three-point arc and added five free throws en route to a career-best 29 points. It's the fourth game with at least 20 points this season for the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native. Burton also finished with five rebounds, four assists, a block, and a steal. Longtime friend and former high school teammate, Tyree Young, converted 10-of-16 shots overall and tallied 21 points, to go along with team-high's of eight rebounds and seven assists. The rebound total is a season-high for the 5'11" guard, while the assists matches a career best.

Freshman Brandon Robinson had the hot hand early, scoring ten of his 14 points in the first half. The Minneapolis, Minnesota, native came off the bench to make 7-of-9 shots, grab seven rebounds, hand out three assists, and collect two blocks. Up by three with less than two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the first half, Madison College used a 10-2 run to take a 41-30 advantage into the break. Burton scored the first five points of that surge to reach a dozen points for the half.

The second half saw Young score 16 points and Burton 14 as the WolfPack led by double-digits for the final dozen minutes. The Duhawks never got closer than seven in the opening seven minutes of the half before the 'Pack knocked down five of their seven total three pointers over the final 20 minutes.

Madison College committed fewer than 13 turnovers for the fourth consecutive game, and turned 18 miscues by Loras College into a 27-9 advantage in points off turnovers. The WolfPack was also plus-ten in points in the paint.

First year guard/forward Alex Easterday rounded out the double-digit scoring efforts with ten points, hitting 4-of-6 shots with a pair of three-pointers, helping the 'Pack to wins in consecutive years over the Duhawks in their only head-to-head matchups.
