EASTERDAY RISING: Freshman's 36 points charges WolfPack to season-high output

Madison College puts up 111-71 win to stretch win streak to seven ahead of N4C play

MADISON, WISC. - Flexing some offensive muscle in their final game before the North Central Community College Conference slate begins after the new year, the Madison College men's basketball team put up its highest point total of the season Friday when it crushed Kishwaukee College by a 111-71 final at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Freshman Alex Easterday posted a career-high 36 points, the second-highest individual scoring effort of the season for the WolfPack, in the team's best scoring day since a 115-point effort last December against Loras College (IA) JV. The 'Pack ends 2017 with a seven-game win streak, the most consecutive wins by Madison College since accomplishing the same feat early in the N4C schedule a season ago.

Two points shy of Tyree Young's 38 points last month at Rochester CTC, Easterday registered the team's third 30-point game of the year and the program's eighth best single game total. The guard/forward from Elkhorn, Wisconsin, shot 12-of-19 overall and 4-for-8 from long range, while also knocking down 8-of-10 free throws to surpass a pair of 21-point games by 15. Easterday had 19 of his 36 points prior to halftime and also amassed ten rebounds for his first career double-double. The big offensive numbers pushed his per game scoring average into double-figures at 11.8.

After an 8-0 start to the game, Madison College used back-to-back Easterday three-pointers to key a 13-2 run that turned a five-point game into a 15-point differential. A personal 5-0 surge by Easterday late in half stretch the lead to as high as 50-26 before settling for a lead of 22 points.

Early in the second half, sophomore Jezzriah Burton ripped off ten points in a 12-2 Madison College run to push the differential to 33 points. With under eight minutes remaining, Madison College enjoyed another strong surge of nine straight points to make it 91-53 with just over six-and-a-half minutes to play to help secure a third consecutive victory over the Kougars (3-11).

The WolfPack dominated the glass by a 50-24 margin and pulled down a season-high 23 offensive boards that led to a 23-6 advantage in second chance points. The home team was also plus-12 in points off turnovers and ten points better in interior scoring.

Four others finished the game scoring in double-digits. Sophomore Tyree Young tallied 23 points for his fifth consecutive game - and eighth overall - with 20 points or more. Young, a former Nicolet HS standout, matched fellow guard Nathaniel Buss for team-high honors with five assists. Freshman reserve Sean Suchomel, a native of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, hit three 3's en route to a career-high 19 points, to go along with seven rebounds, two assists, and a team-high two blocks. And first year forward Brandon Robinson came off the bench to contribute ten points and a career-best 12 rebounds for his second double-double in the last three games. Robinson and Easterday both reeled in a half-dozen offensive rebounds.

For the sixth time in seven games, Madison College shot better than 50%, finishing at 51.9% on 40-of-77 shooting. The home team converted 14-of-31 from outside the arc, marking the fourth time this season with ten or more three's in a game. The Kougars went 28-for-59 (47.5%) overall with just four 3-pointers. At the free throw line, the WolfPack made 17-of-27 tries while the visitors were 11-of-14.

The all-time series now stands at five wins for Madison College and 16 for Kishwaukee College. Four of the five 'Pack wins have come in the last eight games after the Kougars won 12 of the first 13 meetings, including nine consecutive.
