Corcoran, WolfPack hold off Dubuque JV in 86-79 win

Sophomore leads quarter of double-digit scorers with second 30-point effort

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's basketball team posted its highest point total of the season Monday in an 86-79 defeat of NCAA Division III University of Dubuque (IA) JV at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Four players scored in double-figures led by sophomore Megan Corcoran's second 30-point outing of the season as the #9 WolfPack picked up their second straight win.

Madison College opened the game with a 12-5 run, hitting 5-of-7 shots with a pair of three-pointers. Leading by five heading into the second quarter, the Spartans eventually used a 9-0 surge to claim their first lead of the game and triggering a back-and-forth final six minutes of the half before the 'Pack took a 40-39 advantage into the locker room.

The third quarter marked the highest scoring quarter of the night for the two teams, with Madison College building an eight-point edge on two occasions as they led for the entire ten minute period. Up 72-69 with less than eight minutes to play, sophomore Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven scored six of the next eight WolfPack points as the home team went up by 11. Dubuque pulled to within four on the last of Crystal Rios' game-high 36 points before the 'Pack finished 3-for-4 at the free throw line to close out the their fourth victory in as many all-time meetings with the Spartans.

Megan Corcoran was once again the top Madison College scorer, finished with 30 points to match a career-high set six games prior. The Madison, Wisconsin, native made 10-of-17 field goals with four 3-pointers and converted 6-of-9 free throws. Corcoran is 11-for-22 (50%) from long range over the last three games. She also had seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Fellow second year Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven, playing in her third game of the season, set a new career-high with 23 points. A native of Fennimore, Wisconsin, Udelhoven was a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc as part of a 7-for-12 night overall and hit 5-of-7 free throws. She also led the team with a career-best seven assists, while adding seven rebounds.



Freshmen Caitlyn Gilbertson and Abby Meehan each 14 points with six field goals and two free throws apiece. Meehan, a former Evansville HS athlete and member of the Madison College women's soccer team, registered her second double-double in the last three games with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She also protected the basket with a pair of blocked shots. 

Madison College enjoyed their best shooting night of the season, hitting 51.7% (31-60) from the floor with eight three-pointers, matching their previous game-high total for the season. The Spartans made 15 triples, but finished 31-for-80 (38.8%) overall and just 2-of-8 at the line. The WolfPack took full advantage of numerous trips to the charity stripe, posting a 16-for-24 performance. 

The WolfPack were still plagued by sloppy ball control, tallying 21 turnovers that led to 23 UD points. However, while the Spartans were chucking from long range, Madison College outscored them 40-18 in the paint.

Madison College (5-5), now receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division III Poll, is back on the road for back-to-back games to finish out a busy week, starting with in-state foe Western Technical College (0-6) on Wednesday, December 6. The Cavaliers have dropped six straight to open the season and trail the WolfPack in the all-time series, 73-21. The 'Pack has won three straight and nine of the last ten since 2009-10, when the former Wisconsin Technical College Conference disbanded. Tip off tonight is set for 5:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Seminary Gym in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
