MILWAUKEE, WISC. - A bad first quarter by the Madison College women's basketball team Thursday night resulted in an 82-65 road loss to in-state foe Bryant & Stratton College. The WolfPack finished with a season-worst 33 turnovers, which the NJCAA Division II Bobcats turned into 47 points en route to evening the all-time series at one win each. The back-to-back road losses mark the second time this season the 'Pack have dropped two straight, doing so on the home floor to open the season.
The opening ten minutes saw Madison College commit nine turnovers and shoot 6-for-14 (42.9%) from the floor, while Bryant & Stratton converted 13-of-27 shot attempts with one turnover as they built a 30-13 advantage, down from a 19-point deficit thanks to an
Abby Meehan layup that beat the buzzer. The WolfPack led 5-4 early before a 12-0 run for the home team completely altered the course of the game.
The deficit grew to 23 in the second quarter, however, the 'Pack ended the half with a 14-4 surge to cut the differential to 41-28 at the break. Madison College was unable to put together another big run in the second half, and trailed by double-digits their entire half.
The turnover total is the most in a single game for the WolfPack in several years. Sophomore
Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven had a team-high nine miscues in her second game back after a season-ending injury early last season. Bryant & Stratton (8-3) owned a 47-8 advantage in points off turnovers, as well as a 42-24 edge in points in the paint.
Overall, Madison College shot 34.4% (21-61) and was 6-for-19 (31.6%) beyond the arc. The home team was successful on 31-of-79 shot attempts for a 39.2-percentage with six 3-pointers.
Freshman forward
Abby Meehan, playing in just her third career game, tallied a double-double with career-highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds. The Evansville, Wisconsin, native was 6-for-13 on the night and made 6-of-7 free throws.
Sophomore
Megan Corcoran also reached a double-double, doing so for the first time this season. The former Madison La Follette athlete registered 15 points and 11 rebounds, and drained a team-best three triples on eight attempts.
Two others were in double-figures, with Jaylin Stueber coming off the bench to contribute a dozen points and Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven adding 11 points as the WolfPack dropped to 1-3 in Region IV play.
