FIVE GOAL FINALE: WolfPack close regular season with shutout win at Milwaukee

All-American Toby Andrews nets one goal to move closer to all-time Madison College goals record

OAK CREEK, WISC. - The Madison College men's soccer team put the finishing touches on the 2017 regular season with an impressive 5-0 win over in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College on Friday night. Playing through wet conditions, the WolfPack used a four-goal second half to pick up their fourth win in the last five games heading into the NJCAA Region IV Tournament. Madison College finishes the regular season with a 9-5 overall record, a 6-4 mark in the North Central Community College Conference, and an 8-4 record in Region IV play.

Chasing some of the program's top all-time records, sophomore midfielder/forward Toby Andrews scored the game's first goal in the 7' off an assist by freshman Oscar Perez. Andrews, the reigning N4C MVP, has a team-best 14 goals on the year and 29 in his career, moving him one back of Patrick Houlihan ('02) for the program's career goals scored mark. The goal also counted as his fourth game-winning goal of the season, also a team-high.

Leading by just the one goal to start the second half, the WolfPack put together a scoring surge to pull away for the win. Freshman Shane Paterson did most of the damage, with two of the team's four goals. The forward from Catterick Garrison, England, converted a Ricardo Ramos pass in the 56' to make it 2-0. Ramos, a product of Beloit Memoria HS, was on the scoring end two minutes later with an assist by Daniel Gutierrez to put the 'Pack ahead by three. The goal marked the first of the season and third of his career for the sophomore midfielder/forward. Paterson struck again in the 76', taking a pass from Logan Sandin-Carstens and putting a shot past the Stormers goalkeeper for his first career multi-goal game and the seventh scoring strike of the year.

The final goal of the night was tallied in the 83' by first year defender/midfielder Adrian Manriquez, finding the back of the net for the first time in his career. Assisting on the goal was Andrews, giving him three points on the night to sit three points back of Houlihan's school-record 69 career points. Andrews had a chance to add to his goals and points total in the game's final minutes with a penalty kick, but the attempt sailed over the crossbar.

WolfPack goalkeeper Blake Dehn posted six saves against the MATC-Milwaukee attack en route to his clean sheet of the season. For the match, Madison College owned a 22-14 advantage in total shots, and an 8-6 edge in shots on goal.

Madison College now owns an 11-match win streak against their N4C rivals, pushing their overall lead in the all-time series against the Stormers to 39-15-2. Combined with a 3-2 home win last month, the WolfPack have swept five consecutive regular season series.

Up Next:

Madison College will enjoy a week off before opening the NJCAA Region IV Tournament with quarterfinal round match on Saturday, October 14. As the likely higher seed, the WolfPack will host that match, with a time and opponent to be announced at a later date. The winner will move on to the Region IV Semifinal on October 18.
