Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hot shooting start give #3 WolfPack win over Stormers

Four player reach double-figures as win streak hits four games

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's basketball came out of the gates red hot and never let up in earning an 88-59 victory over in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College at Redsten Gymnasium Wednesday night. The win came just hours after the WolfPack learned they were ranked third in the latest NJCAA Division III Poll after falling out of the previous rankings release just before the semester break. It also drops the Stormers from the ranks of the unbeaten in North Central Community College Conference play, leaving only Madison College and Rock Valley College.

Ignited by three straight three-pointers from freshman Megan Corcoran over the game's first two minutes, the WolfPack sprinted to a 16-0 lead before Milwaukee Area Technical College (12-6, 2-1) was finally able to score a basket four minutes and 19 seconds into the game. Madison College shot 61% in the opening quarter, including a 4-for-5 effort from three-point territory to take a 29-13 edge into the second quarter. Not much would change, and the home team would win the next ten minutes by a 26-13 differential to build a 29-point halftime lead behind 59% shooting overall.

The second half saw the 'Pack push their lead to as big as 44 points at 71-27 in the third thanks to a 14-1 surge coming out of the locker room. Madison College took advantage of 23 Stormers turnovers to score 33 points (+21), while also finishing ten-points better in interior scoring (44-34). By taking the first of two meetings in the I-94 series, the WolfPack pushed their advantage to 71-10 in the all-time series, and have now split the past eight games.

Rachel Slaney, who earlier in the day was named the NJCAA Division III Player of the Week for the second time this season, picked up her seventh consecutive double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds. The sophomore forward and former Barneveld Eagles standout saw her streak of games with 20 or more points end at seven.

Megan Corcoran finished the game with four 3-pointers and 17 points to extend her consecutive games with double-digit point totals to 11. It was also the eighth game in the last ten played where the 5'10" guard has made multiple shots from long range. Corcoran, a Madison, Wisconsin, native, led the team with five assists.

Peyton Trapino also tallied 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting with one 3-pointer, five rebounds, four assists, and a team-best five steals. She now has four straight double-digit scoring efforts, during which she is shooting 46% from the floor. Off the bench, guard Macy Graf racked up 15 points, going 6-for-9 overall, to secure her third consecutive game above the 10-point mark.

Former Madison College softball player Brittany Kaltenburg had 11 points for the Stormers, one of four Milwaukee Tech players with ten or more.

Madison College (14-3, 3-0) continues a three-game homestand on Saturday with a N4C matchup against Wilbur Wright College (0-14, 0-3). The WolfPack are 9-1 all-time against the Rams with a six-game win streak. Gametime at Redsten Gymnasium is at 1:00 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on MadisonCollege.TV or via the Madison College Athletics Facebook page.
