Slaney earns second NJCAA Player of the Week honor

Impressive week included first career triple-double

For the second time in this season, Madison College sophomore Rachel Slaney has been named the NJCAA Division III Player of the Week, this time for the span of January 2-8 (Week 10). The honor is the second of her career and of the season after receiving the same accolade for November 28-December 4 (Week 5).

Over a two game stretch, Slaney averaged 33.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 8.5 assists, and 5.5 steals while helping the WolfPack begin North Central Community College Conference play with a 2-0 record. The Barneveld, Wisconsin, native registered her first career double-double with 34 points, 14 board, and 10 assists in a win over Joliet Junior College. She nearly pulled off the rare quadruple-double, finishing three steals shy of ten. Three days earlier against Triton College, Slaney's statline read 33 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.

The All-American is averaging 26.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 4.0 steals, to go along with 12 total blocks on the season. Those numbers are all tops among Madison College players, while ranking fifth nationally in scoring and third in the country for free throws made and attempted a contest. Slaney has recorded at least a double-double in seven straight games and eleven overall, while scoring over 30 points in five contests.

The third-ranked WolfPack, back in the NJCAA DIII Poll after a one week hiatus, defeated in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College, 88-59, shortly after the announcement of the player of the week winners on Wednesday. Madison College (14-3, 3-0) returns to action Saturday, January 14 against winless Wilbur Wright College (0-14, 0-3). Game time at Redsten Gymnasium is at 1:00 p.m.
