Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WolfPack women suffer second consecutive setback

Early goal by Travis doesn't hold up at Joliet

JOLIET, ILL. - Playing with a depleted roster due to injury, the Madison College women's soccer team came within 15 minutes of earning a hard fought road win, or at the very least taking a draw back on the bus ride home. Instead, two late goals against the WolfPack resulted in a 2-1 loss at North Central Community College Conference foe Joliet Junior College on Wednesday, marking the team's second straight loss after a 2-0 start.

Madison College (2-2, 1-2) moved quickly to net the game's first goal as sophomore Katie Travis blasted the team's second shot of the match past the Wolves goaltender to make it 1-0 in the game's sixth minute. It's the first goal of the season for the Burlington, Wisconsin, native and the sixth of her career.

The WolfPack did all they could to make that goal hold up, maintaining the one goal advantage deep into the second half. However, Joliet JC (2-2, 1-1) would strike twice in just over a two minute span to take a 2-1 lead.

Desperately trying to find the equalizer, the 'Pack attempted two more shots, including one by Travis that ricocheted off the crossbar, and two late corner kicks.

For the match, shots were even at 11 a piece, though Joliet managed to put five additional shots on goal. Travis and freshman Breanne Kreklow had the most looks at the net with three each, while the sophomore duo of Lindsay Kraemer and Lindsay Hamilton both had two.

First year goalkeeper Brandie Gospodarek made six save on the night, giving her an average of more than 12 saves a game.

Madison College begins a season-long three-game homestand Friday when N4C and in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College (0-2, 0-2) makes the trip west on I-94. The game will actually mark the first meeting all-time between the two programs after the Stormers have failed to field a team the last couple seasons. Kick off is set for 4:00 p.m. at Warner Park.
