MADISON, WISC. - It was a record-setting day for the Madison College women's soccer team, and it came in a resounding 14-0 win in the first ever meeting with in-state Milwaukee Area Technical College on Friday. The total number of goals is the most scored in a game in program history, sitting five better than the nine goals scored on two separate occasions in 2015.
The star of the day was sophomore midfielder
Katie Travis, who broke single game records for goals, assists, and points. The Burlington, Wisconsin, native tallied five goals and five assists for a total of 15 points. Travis' prior highs in a single game were two goals, three assists, and six points. She passed current teammate
Arianna Viscarra for the goals record (4 vs. Triton College in 2015), eclipsed the herself (vs. College of Lake County in 2015) and Viscarra (vs. Elgin Community College in 2015) for the assists record after both had three in a game, and nearly doubled Viscarra (8 vs. Triton in 2015) and Elizabeth Conejo (8 vs. Joliet Junior College in 2014) with the points record.Â
However, Travis wasn't the only member of the 'Pack putting up big numbers at Warner Park. Freshman
Breanne Kreklow scored a hat trick with three goals to go along with an assist for seven points, all career-highs. The New Glarus (WI) HS grad is now even with Travis for the team lead in goals this season with six.
Sophomore
Lindsay Kraemer also found the back of the net three time for her first career hat trick.
Freshman
Karina Piazza had two goals and an assist, and Viscarra registered a goal and two assists.
Zoey Gurney and
Norma Samaniego made their way into the assist column with two and one, respectively, for the first points of their collegiate careers.
While nearly all of the action occurred on one end of the pitch, freshman goalie
Brandie Gospodarek was able to earn her second shut out of the season, and did so without facing a single shot on goal from Milwaukee Area Technical College (0-3, 0-3).
The game was called after 70 minutes when the Stormers lost a player to injury and had no substitutes available.
The homestand continues for Madison College on Wednesday, September 14 when they host #10 College of DuPage (3-3-1, 2-0). The WolfPack has not beaten the the Chaparrals in six all-time meetings. Kick off is at 4:00 p.m.
