MADISON, WISC. - Eyeing a program defining win on their home turf, the Madison College women's soccer team came up just short in a 1-0 loss to 10th-ranked College of DuPage on Wednesday at Warner Park. The setback is the WolfPack's seventh straight against the Chaparrals, but marks the smallest final deficit in the all-time series.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes in which Madison College (3-3, 2-3) kept pace with DuPage (5-2-1, 3-0) by a difference of 13-9 in the shots category, the defending North Central Community College Conference champs turned on the gas in the second half. The WolfPack managed just one shot on goal the remainder of the game, while the visitors went rapid fire with 15. One of those shots managed to get past the 'Pack defense and goaltender
Brandie Gospodarek when Allie Jones converted a goal in the 62nd minute.
Gospodarek finished the match with a season-high 21 saves, posting a save percentage of .955 for the match.
Of the eight shots on goal hoisted by the WolfPack, three came off the foot of sophomore
Katie Travis, who earlier in the day was named the
NJCAA Division III Women's Soccer Player of the Week. Fellow sophomore
Lindsay Kraemer attempted two shots on goal, while freshmen
Olivia Zaleski,
Breanne Kreklow, and
Norma Samaniego each had one.
The WolfPack will travel to the College of DuPage on October 7.
Madison College continues N4C competition Friday, September 16 when it wraps up a three-game homestand against Harper College (1-1, 1-1). The two teams split two matches last season, though the 'Pack owns the head-to-head series 2-1-1. Kick off is at 4:00 p.m. at Warner Park in Madison.
