ROCKFORD, ILL. - The four-time defending North Central Community College Conference champion Madison College hit the road to begin defense of their crown, and did so by sweeping a battle of two teams ranked in the
NJCAA Division III Poll. The #1 WolfPack took down #9 Rock Valley College in three sets, winning by scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-20 on Thursday, September 1.
Madison College opened with an efficient offensive attack, hitting .318 and .375 in sets one and two, respectively, as it improved to 6-0 to start the season and 1-0 in league play.
Sophomore
TeAnn Harms tallied a team-best nine kills and hit .400 for the match. She also matched teammates
Andrea Bauer and
Megan Corcoran with two aces each.
Bauer finished with eight kills, giving the sophomore duo 68-percent of the team's offense. The Mukwonago, Wisconsin, native also pitched in defensively with a team-best 12 digs.Â
Taylor Genthe continued her transition into the role of setter and registered a career-best 22 assists, to go along with ten digs for her second consecutive double-double.
Harms, Genthe,
Natasha Swiggum, and
Keifer Zimmerman each collected on block. Zimmerman, a transfer from Rock Valley College (0-3, 0-2), had two kills and four digs against her former team.
Madison College will take it's perfect start to the College of DuPage Invitational in Glen Ellyn, Illinois for a four-match tournament. The WolfPack opens with Lincoln College (IL) on Friday, September 2 at 5:00 p.m. and will play John A. Logan College (IL) immediately after. On Saturday they will square off with Ridgewater College (MN) and Oakton Community College (IL).
