MADISON, WISC. - The score was a bit closer, but all that mattered to the Madison College men's soccer team was that the result was the same. The WolfPack defeated Illinois Valley Community College by a 3-1 final Tuesday at historic Breese Stevens Field. Madison College (6-1-1) had opened the season with an
8-3 victory over the Eagles (3-6) in the season opener August 23, a game that also marked the first ever meeting between the two programs.
Freshman
Bachirou Lo provided the early scoring spark for the WolfPack, quickly finding the back of the net in the game's third minute off an assist from
Toby Andrews. Twenty-two minutes later, the Dakar, Senegal, native blasted another shot past the IVCC goaltender, this time off a pass from sophomore
Chris Dadds, to make it 2-0. The two goals in a game are a career high for the freshman forward, who now has five goals on the season.
The celebration was short-lived, however, as the Eagles countered with their lone goal in the 27th minute to make it 2-1, a score that stood through halftime.
In the second half, Madison College found some breathing room thanks to first-year midfielder
Jake Andrews' goal in the 67th minute on an assist from
Jose Barron. The former Madison College men's basketball player is now tied for second on the team with seven goals, one back of his twin brother, Jake.
The WolfPack completely controlled the pace, and more importantly, the ball throughout the match, finishing with season high 27 total shots. Their nine official shots on goal were two better than the seven total shots attempted (five on goal) for the Eagles.
Freshman goalkeeper
Juan Martinez was credited with three saves, boosting his season save percentage to .756.
Madison College will take a 4-1-1 conference record to Harper College (5-2, 3-2) for a North Central Community College Conference matchup in Palatine, Illinois. The WolfPack trail the all-time series 10-6, but already defeated the Hawks by a
3-2 margin in Madison on August 31 to begin league play. That win also ended a three-game losing skid for Madison College in the head-to-head matchups. Kick off Friday, September 23 is at 4:00 p.m.
