MILWAUKEE, WISC. - An all-around dominating performance by the Madison College men's soccer team pushed their unbeaten streak to start the season to six games. The WolfPack registered their most goals in a game this season in a 9-0 rout of in-state and North Central Community College Conference rival Milwaukee Area Technical College on Friday.
First year midfield/forward
Toby Andrews enjoyed a day unlike any other in program history. Andrews scored five goals in the game, breaking the record of four goals in a game that had been done three times prior -
Alfredo Ramirez-Pinho, 2015; Thiemoko Kone, 2009; and Dan Bednarczyk, 2008.
Andrews began the game's scoring in the 13th minute, converting a
Jose Barron pass, and then made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute thanks to an assist from
Bachirou Lo. Four minute later, Barron found the back of the net to make it 3-0 at the half.
The second scoring came fast and furious, starting with Lo off a
Ricardo Ramos pass to make it 4-0.
Andrews' third goal in the 61st minute went unassisted, however, he then set up a
Christian Munoz scoring strike in the 76th minute for a 6-0 advantage. That score set off the final barrage of goals, all from the brothers Andrews.
Jake Andrews lone goal in the 78th minute preceded two assists on his brother Toby's final two scores in the 81st and 83rd minutes, respectively. In the end, the five goals Andrews a team-leading season total of eight, one better than Munoz.
While all the scoring was going on, goalkeeper
Juan Martinez fended off four Stormers shots on goal to record his second consecutive shut out.
The win is the eighth straight over the rival Stormers, whom the WolfPack have outscored 39-1 during that span. It's also the most lopsided win total in the series since a 10-0 win back in 2005. Madison College is now 33-12 all-time against Milwaukee Area Technical College (0-5, 0-3).
Next up is a road game at #9 Triton College (6-0, 3-0) on Wednesday, September 14. The Trojans own the all-time series by a 14-5 margin, though the two teams have split the last four meetings. Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
