Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Four-goal second half nets season's first win for WolfPack women

Madison College freshman breaks tie with back-to-back scores

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's soccer team began the 2016 season, and the Matt Schwartz era, with an impressive first showing, taking down visiting College of Lake County by a 5-2 margin Saturday at Warner Park. In the three years of the program, the WolfPack have opened two straight seasons with a win.

Trailing 1-0 after a Lancers goal in the 12th minute, Madison College pulled even when sophomore Lindsay Kraemer converted a Renny Bertun pass for the season's first score in the 34th minute.

The game's second half featured a flurry of scoring, starting with 'Pack sophomore Arianna Viscarra's kick to the back of the net less than three minutes in. It also marked the ninth goal for the Middleton (WI) HS product. The 2-1 lead was short lived, though, with Lake County's attack responding two minutes later with their second goal past Brandie Gospodarek.

In search of the go-ahead goal, freshman Breanna Kreklow came through with that and more. The New Glarus, Wisconsin, native punched through her first collegiate score in the 64th minute, and added some breathing room with yet another goal four minutes later. Helping to make the goals possible were the game's first two goal scorers, Kraemer and Viscarra, respectively.

Feeling a wave of momentum, Madison College put the game away for good in the 70th minute when freshman Olivia Zaleski made it 5-2. The goal was also assisted by Viscarra, giving her four points on the day.

Overall, Madison College allowed eight more shots attempted and 11 more fired on goal, forcing Gospodarek to register 17 saves in her collegiate debut.

The WolfPack will play for the program's first ever 2-0 start Wednesday when they travel to Triton College (1-0) to begin play in the North Central Community College Conference. Kick off is at 4:00 p.m. in River Grove, Illinois.
