RIVER GROVE, ILL. - Though still in it's relative infancy as a program, the Madison College women's soccer team is quickly off to it's best start ever after a 4-0 shut out of North Central Community College Conference opponent Triton College Wednesday. In two games, the WolfPack has dominated the opposition by a 9-2 scoring margin.
After 20 scoreless minutes and a couple of missed chances against the Trojans goalkeeper, Madison College (2-0, 1-0) finally broke through with an
Olivia Zaleski goal in the 22nd minute. It came courtesy of an assist by
Katie Travis.
Striking while the iron was hot, Travis then fed freshman
Breanne Kreklow for the team's second goal less than 30 seconds later, and the 'Pack owned a 2-0 lead at the half.
The second half proved much the same as Travis placed yet another perfect pass for fellow sophomore
Lindsay Kraemer to bang past the goalline nearly six minutes into the half. For Kraemer the goal marks her second of the season, while Travis matches a career-high with three assists in a game, a feat she pulled off in 2015 against the College of Lake County.
Leading 3-0 and with less than 20 minutes remaining, Zaleski capped the day's scoring with her second goal of the game off a pass from Kreklow. The freshman from Waunakee, Wisconsin, leads the team with three goals and six points.
However, the real storyline was the Madison College defense, limiting Triton College (1-1, 0-1) to 12 total shots and only nine on goal. All nine were stopped by freshman goaltender
Brandie Gospodarek, who boasts a .929 save percentage through her first 180 minutes of collegiate soccer.
The WolfPack return home to face another N4C foe, #5 Rock Valley College on Friday, September 2. The game kicks off at 4:00 p.m. on Warner Park Field #1.
