MADISON, WIS. - In their first home game of the season, the Madison College men's basketball team scored first and never looked back in a 94-49 win over the Fox Valley Technical College Foxes on Wednesday night.
Only two players finished with double digit point totals for the WolfPack, but eight others scored at least five points in the 45 point win.
Madison held a 41-33 advantage at the break, using 44.7% shooting from the floor to take the lead they would never relinquish. The WolfPack improved on their first half by shooting at a 62.2 clip from the floor on 23-of-37 second half shots, including hitting 4-of-10 beyond the arch. The 53 second half points brought the 'Pack within six of scoring 100, a feat that was last attained in a 107-70 win during the 2013-14 season.
Madison also dominated in the paint with a 48-24 point advantage, three point points (27 to 3), bench points (50 to 13), and defensive stops (60 to 34).
Shane Waldon, a sophomore transfer student from UW-Whitewater, paced the WolfPack offense with 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor, and freshman guard
Jezzriah Burton finished with 13. Besides Waldon and Burton, four players finished with nine points, including
Paul Schmelzer III,
Tyree Young,
Brandon Neuberger, and Breon Bliar.
Stavon Staples added eight points, and 10 of the 13 players that saw playing time scored at least five points in the blowout win.
Similar to Madison's balanced offensive production, the rebounding battle was won by the WolfPack (49 to 37), but no member of the 'Pack hauled down more than
Conrad Donnelly's eight. The home team dished out 25 assists and were led by
Tyree Young with five steals.
Next up for the 2-1 WolfPack is a trip to Coon Rapids, Minnesota, for the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Tournament on November 11 and 12, featuring two NJCAA DIII opponents. Madison College takes on the host Anoka-Ramsey Golden Rams at 7:00 p.m. tonight, before playing the St. Cloud Technical College Cyclones in the second tournament game at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
