FREEPORT, ILL - Playing their second consecutive road game to start the season, the Madison College men's basketball team was unable to keep up with NJCAA Division I Highland Community College on Saturday, falling by an 88-71 final. The WolfPack, who saw 13 players receive game action in the setback, are 1-1 under first year coach
Bill Kegler.
On paper Madison College gave up a lot of interior size to the lengthy Cougars, but WolfPack were able to hang tough in the paint and finished even in the rebound category. The real difference came with taking care of the basketball, as the Highland Community College (1-0) forced 26 turnovers by the visitors while only committing 15.Â
Madison College trailed at the half, 39-31, and were outscored by nine in a very high-scoring second half. Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native
Shane Waldon led the 'Pack in scoring, as the UW-Whitewater transfer finished with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
Also in double-figures was freshman
Marquis Harris with 11 points, making all but one of his field goal attempts on the day.
Zach Adkins and
Deshawn Black tied for team-high honors with six rebounds each, and first year guard
Tyree Young dished out a team-leading five assists.
Madison College finished the game shooting just 40.8-percent from the floor on 29-for-71 shooting, including a 31 attempts from beyond the arc.
The WolfPack make their home debut at Redsten Gymnasium on Wednesday, November 9 against Fox Valley Technical College (0-1). Madison College has never lost against the Foxes, taking W's in 15 all-time meetings, eight of which have come since 2012. The evening will also double as Parent's Night for the 2016-17 WolfPack. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
