MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's soccer team responded well to a tough loss on the road Wednesday, using some home cooking at Breese Stevens Field to earn a 2-0 win over North Central Community College Conference opponent Joliet Junior College on Friday. The win gives the WolfPack a season split against the Wolves, who own just one win all-time in the head-to-head series after a one-goal victory in early September. The match also marked the final regular season home game for the 'Pack, and the last before the program moves into it's new on-campus home at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Sports Complex in 2017.
Madison College (7-5, 4-5) tallied the game's first goal in the 15th minute when sophomore
Lindsay Kraemer scored for the ninth time this season, moving the Burlington, Wisconsin, native into a tie for the team lead with fellow sophomore
Arianna Viscarra.
In the 37th minute, freshman
Breanne Kreklow converted a
Katie Travis pass for a 2-0 advantage. The goal pushed Kreklow, a New Glarus (WI) HS product, to eight goals on the year, matching that of Travis for third most, though Travis now has a team-leading 27 points on the season.
Joliet Junior College (3-8, 1-6) was only able to attempt three shots against the WolfPack defense the rest of the match, as Madison College outshot the competition 19-5 overall. Freshman goaltender
Brandie Gospodarek collected four total saves en route to her third shutout.
The WolfPack, who went 4-3 at home, will play its remaining three games of the regular season on the road, starting Wednesday, September 5 at Milwaukee Area Technical College (0-8, 0-7). Madison College trounced the Stormers,
14-0, on September 9 in the first ever meeting between the in-state rivals. Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
