RIVER GROVE, ILL. - In one of their most efficient matches of the season, the Madison College women's volleyball team may have sent an early message with a resounding sweep of Triton College on Tuesday. The #2 WolfPack will use a 25-8, 25-9, and 25-11 rout of the Trojans as momentum into a rematch at #1 Harper College on Thursday.
Madison College (25-2, 10-1) came out firing on all cylinders in the opening set, registering 14 kills and a .565 hitting percentage en route to hitting at a .400 clip for the match. Helping the offensive numbers with a 14 service aces, giving the 'Pack 45 aces over it's last three matches. The defense also was on point, finishing with seven blocks and an impressive 65 digs as the visitors extended their consecutive match and sets win streak against Triton College (3-17, 2-9) to 17 and 51, respectively.
Andrea Bauer came away with team-high honors in kills with ten. The Mukwonago, Wisconsin, native also had ten digs to reach her 12th double-double of the year.
Natasha Swiggum continues her late season surge with eight kills and a team-best .636 attack percentage.
Freshman
Keely Brown returned to the court for the WolfPack after missing all but the first six matches of the season with an injury. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native led the offense with 17 assists, while sophomore
Taylor Genthe had ten. Genthe also finished with seven kills.
Sophomore libero
Kaitlin Mooney secured 21 digs and scored four aces, leading the team in both categories.
Madison College, winners of six straight matches, will play it's third #1 vs. #2 match of the season when it meets Harper College (35-1, 10-0) for the second time this season. The Hawks defeated the WolfPack in five sets in Redsten Gymnasium last month and are 16-1 since then, including a current 12-match win streak. Madison College owns a 16-10 advantage in the all-time series, however, Harper has won three of the last four meetings and sits one game ahead of the four-time defending North Central Community College Conference champions in the N4C standings. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. in Palatine, Illinois.
