A BAKER'S DOZEN: #2 WolfPack rout FVTC to stay perfect

It took just seven seconds for the #2 Madison College women's basketball team to score it's first basket Monday against Fox Valley Technical College. Seven minutes later, the WolfPack owned a 19-0 lead and were well on their way to a 13-0 start with a 96-37 win at Redsten Gym. All 13 of the wins this season have come by double digits, with the 'Pack owning an average margin of victory of 37.3 points a game.

Madison College owned a 31-8 advantage through the first quarter, went to halftime up 38, and matched their season-high point total of 96 for a second straight game. It was also the second consecutive game in which the 'Pack buried ten or more 3-pointers, connecting on 10-of-27 after hitting a season-best 14 two days earlier against Kishwaukee College. Jessica Pelzel's club dominated FVTC in every statistical category, including rebounds (57-31), second chance points (18-0), points in the paint (40-16), and points off turnovers (30-4). Ball movement and defensive pressure again fueled the win as Madison College registered 29 assists on 38 field goals made while turning the visitors over 22 times.

From the field, the WolfPack shot 48.7% and held the Foxes to a 12-of-55 (21.8%) mark. Freshman standout Rachel Slaney grabbed game-high honors with 18 points, hitting 8-of-12 shots to reach double figures for the 12th time this season. The Barneveld, Wisconsin, product also led the team with seven rebounds and three steals, while dishing out four assists. Jenna Endres kept her double-digit scoring streak in tack with a 17-point effort that included a 4-for-6 performance beyond the arc. The sophomore sharpshooter has made three or more 3-pointers in four straight games and in nine games overall this season.

Kaitlyn Kast tallied her second-highest point total of the season, coming off the bench with 11 points. Kast led a bench scoring attack that contributed 42 points to the win. Among the 12 players to score in the game, Carly Johnson dropped in nine points, and the trio of Taylor Nelson, Anna Bunyan, and Addison Hemming each had eight.

The final game of a five-game homestand is Wednesday, January 6 against the Benedictine University JV. It is a 5:30 p.m. tip at Redsten Gym. The game is a change from a previously scheduled matchup with N4C foe Wilbur Wright College.
