For the first time this season the Madison College men's basketball team has won back-to-back games after a 78-62 defeat of Fox Valley Technical College on Monday at Redsten Gym. It also marks the second win of the season against the Foxes after the WolfPack won by ten in the season opener in Menasha, Wisconsin.
Trailing for most of the game's first nine minutes, sophomore
Tyler Meier knocked down a three-pointer with 10:50 to play in the half, breaking an 11-11 tie, and sparking a 24-9 run. During that stretch Madison College was 3-of-4 from distance and freshman
Cortez McCree netted seven of his 11 points. The 37-25 halftime lead was cut to less than ten on two occasions in the second half, however, the WolfPack used a 14-4 spurt over a four-minute span to secure the victory.
When not turning it over, which they did 22 times, Madison College shot well for the game finishing 26-51 (51%) and took advantage of 11 more trips to the free throw line. As they have done most of the season, and especially in their win, the 'Pack also controlled the glass with a 41-31 margin in rebounds.
In just his second game with the team since being added to the roster between semesters,
Ethan Lurquin proved a valuable commodity with a game-best 15 points, including a pair of hits from outside the arc. The Poynette native also matched McCree for team honors with six rebounds and was tops defensively with two steals. Meier reached double figures for the fourth straight game and set a season-best with four triples as he tallied 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Kristian Zimmerman had 11 points and dished out four assists as the WolfPack set up 77% of their field goals with an assist (20). Â
Malik Henderson and
Markus Tobias both finished with eight points.
Madison College will take a 5-8 record into conference play Wednesday, January 6 when Wilbur Wright College comes to Redsten Gym to open North Central Community College Conference play. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. as the WolfPack seeks it's third consecutive win versus the Rams after sweeping their regular season series last year.
