Fast start nets 20th win, 1st place tie for #1 WolfPack

Four players score in double figures as win streak hits five games

Box Score Sophomore Megan Petty scored eight first quarter points as the Madison College women's basketball team broke out a 14-4 lead, and eventually beat Harper College 69-34 Wednesday in Palatine, Illinois. The top-ranked WolfPack (20-1) moved into a tie atop the North Central Community College Conference standings with a 5-1 record, matching that of Rock Valley College.

The N4C battle was competitive throughout the second quarter as Madison College owned a 28-19 lead at the half. The second half belonged to the visiting 'Pack and sophomore Jenna Endres. She scored 13 points in the third quarter to help build a 47-26 advantage, hitting 3-of-4 attempts from long range in the process.

That run was also triggered by defensive pressure that forced 19 Hawks turnovers, leading to 25 Madison College points. The road team also controlled the interior, netting a 36-22 edge in points in the paint and a plus-13 in second chance points off of a dozen offensive rebounds. The 'Pack out-rebounded Harper College (4-17, 0-6) by a 41-30 margin.

Jenna Endres was the top scorer for a third consecutive game, finishing with 18 points and sinking a total of four 3-pointers. Megan Petty's hot start culminated in a season-high 14 points as she shot an efficient 7-of-9 from the floor. The Rio native also secured a team-high eight rebounds. Once again freshman Rachel Slaney filled the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals. The fourth player to reach double digits in scoring was sophomore Addison Hemming, who came off the bench to sink all five of her shot attempts for ten points.

Madison College will finish out a three-game road stretch with a non-conference game against the University of Dubuque JV on Monday, February 1. The game is a replacement for a previously scheduled N4C contest against Wilbur Wright College on January 30. Game time in Dubuque, Iowa, is set for 6:00 p.m.
