The Madison College women's soccer team didn't waste any time in their season and conference opener on September 2 against the Triton College Trojans in Madison, WI. The WolfPack jumped out to a 7-0 halftime lead before cruising to a 9-1 win over Triton for the lopsided home win.
Freshman
Arianna Viscarra got the scoring started with a goal at the 2:50 mark, off of an assist from
Jamie Hess. Viscarra then proceeded to score eight seconds later off of an assist from
Lindsay Kraemer fo9r the 2-0 WolfPack lead. Not content with two goals, Viscarra kicked in two more goals for the four goal game while establishing a new singled game record for goals by a Madison College women's soccer played.
Maite Diaz-Cardenas and
Melissa Stewart provided the assists on Viscarra's third and fourth goals, as all four of her goals were scored of assists from different players. With the 4-0 WolfPack lead just over 34 minutes into the second half,
Tynia Goldensoph kept the scoring going for Madison, but the scorer was different on the unassisted goal.
Lindsay Kraemer then knocked in a goal three minutes later off of an assist from
Melissa Stewart, and then Stewart scored a goal of her own to end the half with Madison College ahead 6-0. With a comfortable 6-0 lead, the WolfPack added two more goals very early in the second half as both Stewart and Mirletter Orozco scored unassisted goals. At that point the WolfPack ended their scoring by essentially "calling off the dogs" and allowed one Triton goal at the 53 minute mark before coasting to the huge 9-1 win.
Arianna Viscarra's four goal performance surpassed the efforts of last season when
Elizabeth Conejo scored three goals in two games, and
Tynia Goldensoph scored three goals in one other game. Other than the high octane offense, goalkeeper
Lindsay Hamilton received the start at goal and nearly shut out the Trojans. She recorded five saves in 90 minutes in goal.
The WolfPack women's soccer team makes the short trio down to Rockford, IL on September 4 for another N4C game with the Rock Valley Golden Eagles. The game against Rock Valley, another second year program, starts at 4:00 PM. Rock Valley appeared in last season's NJCAA DIII National Tournament and finished with a 1-2 record at nationals.
