After waiting two days to play a game that was originally scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 a.m., Madison College faced UCONN-Avery Point this morning (5/25) at 10:00 a.m. The WolfPack struggled offensively but starting righthander,
Westin Wuethrich, kept the 'Pack in the game by allowing just two hits in seven and a third innings of work. Madison College tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the eighth inning but after the Pointers answered with a run in the bottom half of the eighth the WolfPack had no answer in the ninth and fell 3-2.
UCONN-Avery Point scored two runs in the fourth inning on a single to center. Then, in the fifth inning,
Mike Aiello drove into a fielder's choice that scored
Nick Kanavas. The WolfPack tied in the game in the eighth on a
Sam Hurt single to center field, driving in
Mike Aiello. However, the WolfPack would strand three runners in that inning and the Pointers capitalized in the bottom of the eighth scoring one run on a Nick Perrelli double.
Westin Wuethrich made his twelfth start of the season and fared well as he allowed just two hits over seven and one third innings of work. Wuethrich struck out two, walked two and gave up three earned runs before turning it over to
Clayton Uselman in the eighth. Uselman gave up just one hit and struck out three in his one and two-thirds innings.
Westin Wuethrich received the loss to pushing his overall record to 6-2.
The WolfPack offense managed just five hits on the day as they left six runners on base and struck out 12 times.
Sam Hurt was the only Madison College batter with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Brandon Gibis,
Nick Kanavas and
Matt Cole accounted for the other WolfPack hits.
Tomorrow, the #4 ranked Madison College WolfPack hope to find their offensive groove when they face #6 ranked, North Area Community College, in a tournament elimination game at 10:00 a.m. The loser of that game goes home while the winner advances to play again at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
