It was not their year at the World Series as Madison College Baseball again struggled offensively and could not stop North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) from putting runs on the scoreboard. The WolfPack fell behind early and could not string anything together and eventually lost by run-rule in the sixth inning, 11-1.
NIACC scored first by putting four runs on the board in the opening inning on three hits and one WolfPack error. In the second inning, the 'Pack answered with a run of their own on a
Nick Kanavas fielder's choice that scored
Luke Yapp. The score remained 4-1 into the bottom of the fifth inning when Daniel Bradley's grand slam put NIACC up 8-1. The Trojans added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to run-rule Madison College, 11-1.
Madison College managed just three hits and one run on the game.
Tony Butler,
Luke Yapp and
Courtney Watkins were the only WolfPack players with hits and
Nick Kanavas had the WolfPack's sole RBI.
First year righthander,
Derek Heffel, received his first loss of the season after pitching three and one-third innings, giving up seven hits and and four base on balls. Heffel did not allow an earned run and struck out one batter before turning it over to
Ryne Blanton. Blanton struck out four batters but gave up four hits and seven earned runs over this two innings of work.
Clayton Uselman also pitched one-third inning in relief.
Madison College's season came to an end in their second game of the World Series. The WolfPack finished the season with a 42-12 overall record, a Region IV title, a conference title and a Division II record sixth straight World Series appearance.
Congratulations to the WolfPack second year players and we all wish you the best of luck going forward. Thanks for a great run.
