Game Recap: Baseball |

WolfPack Baseball picks up two more N4C wins

The Madison College baseball team game away with a close 5-3 win over the Harper College Hawks, before putting on an offensive clinic and defeating the visitors 16-10 in game two. Madison outhit the Hawks 34 to 23 in the two game series, while outscoring them 21 to 13.

Madison grabbed an early 3-0 lead in game one like they often do, before the Hawks attempted to comeback. Harper scored one run in the third to make it 3-1 in favor of the 'Pack before the visitors added another run in the fifth. Up 3-2, Madison went on the attack and scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth, with proved to be all the offense the team need in their 5-3 win.

Brandon Gibis led the way on his 4-for-4 offensive day at the plate, and also doubled once and scored two runs. Tony Butler went 3-for-4, doubled, scored twice, and recorded two RBI; and two others had multiple hit games. Travis Hamilton recorded two hits, two RBI, and a double, and Luke Yapp also had two hits.

Starter Marcellus Sneed earned the win to improve to 3-0 on the season while throwing six solid innings. He did give up three earned runs and 10 hits, but struckout five in the win. Jared Horton came in to relieve Sneed and pitched a perfect seventh inning on the way to recording his first save of the season.

The WolfPack found themselves in a hole in the early going as Harper scored two runs in both the first and second innings in game two. Madison solved that problem and answered the four Harper runs with five runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning. The 5-4 Madison lead didn't last long though as Harper went on the attack and scored five runs of their own to start the fourth inning. With Harper now up 9-5, Madison was held scoreless in the bottom of the frame, and the Hawks added to their lead in the fifth with one run to make with 9-5. The Hawk offense was held in check from there on out, and Madison's came alive as they scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and three more in the sixth for the 16-10 lead. Reliever Clayton Uselman then was able to shut the door on the Hawks and solidify the 16-10 win for the WolfPack.

Tony Butler and Sam Hurt both led the offense and finished 4-for-4 at the plate. Butler added two RBI and two runs scored, and Hurt added one RBI and three runs scored. Next in line was Nick Kanavas who recorded three hits and a team-high four RBI, and Courtney Watkins who also recorded three hits. Brandon Gibis and Mike Jordahl rounded out the team members that recorded multiple hits as they both recorded two in the game. Besides the 20 hits, 16 runs, and 14 RBI, the WolfPack recorded four extra basehits, two sacrifice flies and a sacrifice hit, and three stolen bases. Butler, Kanavas, and Jrodahl provided the doubles, and Travis Hamilton added the team's lone triple. Gibis, Kanavas, and Ryan Makuski each had one steal.

Jarod Richter started the game for the WolfPack and lasted four innings while giving up ten hits and nine runs (7 earned). Clayton Uselman came in relief of Richter and quieted the Harper bats. In three innings, Uselman allowed three hits and one unearned run as he improved to 2-2 on the season.

The WolfPack our back at it tomorrow at the same time and same place as they host the Triton College Trojans on April 19. The 21-10 Madison College team has won two in a row now, as they welcome in another N4C team.
