In their first nine-inning game since mid-March, the Madison College baseball team ended the game as the victors with the 4-2 win over the Elgin Community College Spartans. The non-conference road game was a great test for the team, since Elgin is consistently one of the better teams in NJCAA DII.
Â
Madison jumped on the board early with two runs in both the first and second innings for the quick 4-0 lead. Unfortunately that was all of the offense the 'Pack could muster, but starters
Derek Heffel and reliever
Brandon Gibis were able to seal the deal for Madison.
Â
Tony Butler led the team after going 4-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored.
Matt Cole (2-for-5) and
Luke Yapp (2-for-3) both recorded two hits for the WolPack, as the team registered 10 hits in the game. Yapp and
Sam Hurt recorded doubles for Madison, there only extra basehits.
Â
Heffel started the game for the 'Pack and threw the first six innings, allowing two runs on nine hits. He also struck out four in picking up his fourth win of the season. Gibis picked up the three-inning save, and only allowed three hits in his three innings of work.
