Game Recap: Baseball |

Madison College baseball loses first N4C conference game of the season

All good things must end, and that is what happened on Sunday afternoon. After winning a nailbighter 3-2 over Joliet Junior College in the doubleheader opener to extend their winning streak to 14 games, Madison College lost game two 3-13 for their first conference loss of the season. The WolfPack are still 11-0 in the N4C and sit atop the conference standings after the loss in Joliet, IL.

The day started out great for the WolfPack after scoring three runs in the top of the third inning for the 3-0 lead. The three runs proved enough for starter Marcellus Sneed, who picked up the win, but the Joliet team provided the 'Pack with a scare after scoring two runs in the sixth inning off of Sneed to cut into the three run lead. Up by one run, the WolfPack bats remained quiet in the seventh inning, but Ryne Blanton came in to secure the win and pickup his second save of the season.

The 'Pack only recorded five hits in the game (nobody recorded more than one), but Mike Jordahl paced the team with two RBI. Brandon Gibis, Tony Butler, and Courtney Watkins scored the runs for Madison. Sneed earned the win after scattering three hits in six innings of work, and improved to 2-0 on the year. Ryne Blanton threw a perfect inning to close the game for the WolfPack.

In game two, Madison grabbed the early lead with three first inning runs, but Joliet took control after that half of an inning. The Joliet Wolves scored six runs in the bottom of the first, one in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth to end the game early, holding a 10 run lead.

Joliet belted out 12 hits in the 13-3 win, and Madison only could muster five. Tony Butler and Matt Cole tied for the team lead in hitting after they both finished the day 1-for-2, while Butler also recorded an RBI and a stolen base.

Starter Jarod Richter was saddled with the loss and fell to 2-2 on the year, and the two other WolfPack pitchers (Clayton Uselman and Damian Guenther) didn't fare much better. Richter allowed seven earned runs to score, Uselman allowed one earned run, and Guenther allowed three earned runs.

The WolfPack are right back at it tomorrow as they travel to Elgin, IL for a nine-inning game with the Elgin Community College Spartans. The non-conference game starts at 3:15 p.m.
