Game Recap: Baseball |

Madison College baseball splits doubleheader in IL

The WolfPack baseball team got off to a rough start losing their first game in the area on March 26 and fourth straight, before shutting out the Kishwaukee College Kougars in game two of the doubleheader 5-0. With the split, Madison's record is now 4-8 on the young season.

In game one, Madison struck first with a solo run, but the Koiugars tied it right up with a run of their own in Malta, IL. Kishwaukee then took a 2-1 lead with a run in the fourth before Madison tied it up 2-2 in the top of the fifth. The host team then took control, scoring two and one run in the fifth and sixth innings. Up 5-2, Madison College plated one more run in the seventh, but it wasn't enough.

Both Brandon Gibis and Sam Hurt added two hits, as the WolfPack was limited to seven on the game. Gibis and Hurt both scored runs, and Trevor Tunison recorded the lone extra base hit with his double. Tunison, Courtney Watkins, and Mike Jordahl recorded the RBI for the 'Pack.

Starter Westin Wuethrich picked up the loss in his five innings of work. He did record six strikeouts, but allowed five runs (4 earned) on seven hits and three walks. Jarod Richter recorded one strikeout in one inning of relief.

In game two versus Kishwaukee, the WolfPack offense clicked on all cylinders and the pitching was near perfect in the 5-0 win. The game was scoreless through three innings, before Madison got on the board with a solo run in the fourth inning, then put up a huge four spot in the sixth inning.
No member of the 'Pack recorded multiple hits, but the offense still remained potent as seven of the nine starters had a single or a double. Besides the team's seven hits, the WolfPack added four stolen bases in the win. Mike Aiello recorded the lone extra base hit with his double, Ryan Makuski led the team with two RBI, and the trio of Sam Hurt, Courtney Watkins, and Travis Hamilton had steals. Courtney Watkins led the team with two thefts.

Starter Ryne Blanton was near perfect in his seven inning start and win that improved his record to 2-1. In going the distance, Blanton only gave up two hits, walked three, and added five strikeouts.

The 'Pack has a few days off before travelling to Palatine, IL to face the Harper College Hawks in their first North Central Community College (N4C) games of the season. The doubleheader on Tuesday, March 31 starts at 2:00 p.m.
