Ninth inning collapse dooms WolfPack Baseball

Madison College Baseball lost in excruciating fashion on Sunday as they took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth against host Glendale Community College and came out with a 5-4 loss.

The WolfPack jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning on hits by Mike Jordahl and Sam Hurt. The 'Pack added to their lead in the sixth and ninth innings on Ryan Makuski and Tony Butler singles. Marcellus Sneed pitched six scoreless innings striking out six and scattering five hits before turning it over to Jarod Richter in the seventh. Richter pitched an inning and a third giving up two hits and no runs. With a 4-0 lead and one out in the bottom of the ninth, the WolfPack felt confident. Unfortunately, that confidence quickly eroded.

With two Glendale players on base, Madison College's Jared Horton was pulled for former Brookfield East H.S. athlete, Nick Kanavas. Kanavas struggled, walking three batters and giving up two singles and a triple. Glendale scored three runs with two out including a walk-off single to hand the 'Pack a 5-4 heartbreaking loss.

Jared Horton gave up two earned runs on one hit. Horton had one strikeout and one walk his one inning of work. Nick Kanavas received the loss as he gave up three runs on three hits and three walks.

Offensively, a trio of WolfPack players had two hits including Tony Butler, Sam Hurt and Ryan Makuski. Mike Jordahl joined those three players with one RBI each.

Madison College will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they face Williston State College in a doubleheader in Casa Grande, AZ.
